ARE YOU A WEEKEND SABOTAGER? Yes! Well read on this one is for you? I wish I could tell you that making lifestyle changes would be easy but the truth is they are NOT. In fact, I dare make the argument that changing your lifestyle when it comes to food consumption is PROBABLY the hardest thing you will possibly do. Here is the scenario. YOU are FIT for LIFE Monday through Thursday and a half. Then that pesky Friday and Saturday night is on the horizon. You are ready to eat (CHECK), DRINK (CHECK), and live your life like it's golden (check, check). Problem is those 30 pounds you have been trying to lose doesn't know that those EXTRA 5000 calories you spent on weekend binge drinking is supposed to count OR that those nice yeast roles from your favorite eatery is just so delicious that you cant say NO.
Truth is we all want to indulge in the goodness of food and you probably should do away with your thoughts of depriving yourself of everything. HOWEVER, You have to know that if you take in 10,000 additional weekend calories you have wasted almost 5 days of working out (SERIOUSLY). How many people work out 2xs per day, 6 days a week and experience NO changes? MANY!!!! WHY? because they are either 1. GOING FOOD & DRINK CRAZY on the WEEKEND, 2. Have things in their diet that they THINK are clean but in actuality are killing their progress (SAUCE, JUICE, overindulgence on PERCEIVED GOOD ITEMS,ALCOHOL, BREAD and the list goes on), and 3. They haven't figured out what works for their body.
Here are some tips I would suggest you think about:
For you weekend sabotagers you have to prepare for this time because it is a critical time for you.
If you are going to eat at a restaurant look at the menu IN ADVANCE they are usually online. INSTEAD OF that fried calamari for starters get grilled shrimp or a lighter option, Instead of alcohol get green tea. I know you are frowning at me right at this very moment.. KILL the mean mugs. I can tell you that as a lover of plum and dessert wines it is very hard to give up this pleasantry, however, I can tell you FOR A FACT that once I killed 95% of my alcohol consumption weight loss has been a much more MANAGEABLE task. NOW don't get me wrong I may have a glass 1 per month, but since I have truly committed myself to the NO SABOTAGE ZONE it has become an easier journey.
As a trainer and fitness coach even I have to CHECK myself. All of us have had our fitness demons come out at one time or another and if you are serious about making this a lifestyle you have to apply it no matter the day, time, or season. Holidays, Weekends, and Events are NOT Reasons to derail your progress. What ends up happening is you mess up one day, then internalize that failure, then derail completely (STOP IT, STOP IT, STOP IT). I really need you to knock off that I can't do it attitude because YOU can and you will.
Finally, call your fitness friends let them know you need the sabotage talk and hopefully they will steer you in the right direction.
If all else fells you can always work with a nutrition coach. They can provide you with custom food options, supplementation, and helpful techniques to stay out of the sabotage ZONE.
