I chuckle every time I hear the term skinny fat. It's something about that paradoxical term that pinches my funny bone and brings on a slight grin at the sound of it. Unfortunately, The reality of the skinny fat phenomenon is a very real one; and I suppose those who are trapped in this fitness faux pas are less amused about this uncomfortable reality.
What is skinny fat you ask, and even if you didn't I am going to tell you. Skinny Fat is a disproportionate distribution of lean muscle as it relates to your body weight. So you could be your ideal weight without having your ideal muscle mass, definition, and tone. In short, your slim with a gut or very jiggly body parts. Often you see this body type in those that focus solely on cardio, those that are extremely sedentary, and those with poor eating habits.
Cardio alone reduces fat. So if you do large amounts of cardio you will lose weight. However, you will not have the overall appearance that most individuals desire. There are those individuals that are genetically predisposed with a higher metabolism and tend to stay on the smaller side of the scale. However, that doesn't preclude them from gaining weight in all the wrong areas. Especially, If they are intent on the couch potato syndrome.
